Health Trail
Sheep Inc. is committed to the all-around good health of our communities, so we're excited to offer the Sheep Inc. Health Trail. The trail includes 30 acres of wooded land in the heart of Monroeville, right off of Route 286 and Infinity Drive. There are multiple stations along the way where you can scan a code to complete the recommended exercises before continuing along the trail. This scenic trail is the perfect place to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature, and take in that beneficial fresh air!
BEFORE YOU BEGIN: Some Basic Safety Information
DRESS APPROPRIATELY
Wear comfortable, moisture-wicking clothing that allows for a full range of motion. Sturdy trail running or walking shoes are essential for varied terrain. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen, especially if you'll be exercising in direct sunlight.
STAY HYDRATED AND ENERGIZED
Always carry a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout your workout. For longer trails or more intense sessions, consider bringing a small, easily digestible snack like an energy bar or fruit for a quick energy boost.
LISTEN TO YOUR BODY & PROGRESS SMARTLY
It's crucial to listen to your body and avoid pushing yourself too hard, particularly when new to fitness trail exercises. Start slowly, master proper form, and gradually increase the intensity, repetitions, or complexity of your workouts over time. Consistency and smart progression are key.
SAFETY FIRST: IMPORTANT TIPS FOR TRAIL WORKOUTS
While engaging and beneficial, outdoor fitness requires mindful attention to safety. Keep these points in mind for a safe and enjoyable experience:
- Warm-Up and Cool Down: Never skip these vital steps. A proper warm-up prevents injuries, and a cool-down aids muscle recovery and flexibility.
- Use Proper Form: Maintaining correct technique is paramount for avoiding strains and maximizing exercise effectiveness. If unsure, watch online tutorials or consult a fitness professional.
- Stay Aware of Your Surroundings: Natural settings can present uneven terrain, roots, or unexpected wildlife. Pay attention to your path and environment.
- Inform Someone: Especially if you're exploring a new or less-frequented trail, let someone know your plans and estimated return time.
- Carry Essentials: Beyond water and a fully charged cell phone, consider bringing a small first-aid kit.
- Consult Your Physician: Before beginning any exercise program, it is wise to consult your physician.
